Frello Museet / Das Frello-Museum / The Frello Museum
At The Square, you will find St. Jacobi Church from
the 12th century, the listed “Silassens Hus” from
1797, the beautiful Town Hall from 1872, and “Den
Schutlzke Gård” from the 18th century – all reminders of the town's Time of greatness. Today Varde is a
busy town located close to large holiday home areas
and therefore has a wide selection of shops and a
cozy town center with small, beautifully restored
streets and an art project in the middle of town
along with one of the many eateries – just as there
are several art attractions in other parts of town.
The Frello Museum in Varde is one of the attractions worth seeing – Otto W. Frello was a local artist
known for his surreal/surrealistic, yet highly realistic
and detailed paintings. Otto Frello is today considered by many to be Denmark's best illustrator – his
paintings invite you to use your imagination when
viewing the incredibly detailed and sometimes
chaotic images. Years ago, Otto Frello created a
Christmas universe with the Frello elves.
The miniature town in Arnbjergparken is also a
charming sight – a miniature version of Varde town
in 1866 on a scale of 1:10. Twelve volunteer “mini-builders” were responsible for constructing it. In
the same park, the theater group 7-kanten performs
their Varde Summer Play on the open-air stage
every summer.
