Ludvig Mylius Erichsen
In Nygade there is a statue of I. C. Christensen, Danish Prime Minister from 1905 to
1908, and at the end of Algade there is another of polar explorer and author Ludvig Mylius
Erichsen – both born in Ringkøbing.
Ringkøbing was formerly one of the area's
major trading towns, and until 1970, when
Denmark was divided into counties, Ringkøbing County was the largest of 19 counties,
with a local county council and a county
mayor. Today, the country is divided into 98
municipalities with a mayor and 5 regions
with a regional council and chairperson.
