If not the first, then one of the first seaside
resorts – dating back to the late 1800s with
the Badehotel and the first tourists who had
heard that it was healthy to walk barefoot in
the sand! The lively atmosphere of a seaside resort and lots of people still reigns in
Søndervig. There are many events, restaurants, shops, and a festive atmosphere. But
the North Sea is still right outside the door,
and on a summer day, the whole area echoes
with happy people who either live in vacation
homes or are here on a day trip by car or bicycle from the north, south, or east. And along
the fjord is one of the first bike paths in Denmark, from Ringkøbing to Søndervig, where
you initially had to pay a toll – 10 øre per trip –
for using it. However, this stopped as soon as
bicycles became “public property.”
