Oksbøl and the surrounding area has fantastic
nature to offer – big, open heaths, dune plantations and wide sandy beaches. The area also
contains special historical attractions, for example
the much-visited german refugee-cemetery with
stone crosses in memory of 1675 refugees and a
burial area for 121 german soldiers.
In a danish/german collaboration, the world’s first
international refugee-museum, FLUGT, is built in
Oksbøl at the corner of the former barrack camp.
FLUGT tells the story of the approx. 250,000 German civilian refugees that came to Denmark after
World War II, but also the stories of more recent
refugees – and communication of universal issues,
feelings and nuances related to being a fleeing
human being.
